This time of year, it’s all about the table a common piece of furniture- the family dinner table. It takes on a far more prominent role than usual. Much thought is given to centerpieces, tablecloths, guest seating, additional leaves, extra chairs and of course, what sumptuous fare we will heap upon it. And it’s easy to see why! Who wouldn’t love family and friends all gathered together, sharing oft repeated stories, loads of smiles and belly laughs, lively discussions and of course, way too much food! We enjoy our time and usually learn a thing or two we didn’t know plus we fill in another piece our life puzzle. Then we share hugs, leftovers and head our separate ways anticipating next year. And alas, our wonderful gathering place-that old faithful dinner table retreats, once again, into the background, a victim of busy schedules and harried days. Missed are so many valuable opportunities to talk, share, giggle, laugh, Listen and learn. I’ve learned so much through the years daily- around our family dinner table and I’m happy to say our kids have too. This year let’s further the tradition by meeting there far more frequently with those we love. It doesn’t have to be a feast. Take out or leftovers work just fine. It’s not about the meal—it’s about the memories. Gotta go. Dinner’s almost ready.
